Our client in Downingtown, PA, had a pool in their backyard but nowhere around it to lounge. So, they contacted us to help them! This project started with a consultation, during which we discussed their goals for a new pool deck. Their yard is sloped, so we had to come up with a solution to flatten out the land, namely a retaining wall. After gathering all the necessary information, we got to work designing their space. Following their approval of the design, our team built a durable retaining wall and a paver pool deck atop it, around where the pool is. Finally, we finished this project by spreading seeds where the surrounding grass was damaged during construction, which we covered with straw to keep them in place and shield them from the elements.

This Paver Pool Deck Project Started With a Consultation Before We Designed It

The first step of this paver pool deck project was a consultation with our client! During this initial meeting, we sat down with them to discuss their goal to create a space around the pool for sitting and relaxing. We discussed how they envisioned their pool deck to look and where they wanted to put it. Since their yard has a slope, we told them a retaining wall would be necessary to flatten out the area. Once all the details were worked out, we collaborated with them to create a design for their newly updated space, ensuring the pool deck fit around the pool perfectly while making it large enough for them to enjoy it to the fullest.

The Next Step Was to Install the Retaining Wall & Pool Deck

After we designed our client's new pool deck and they approved it, we moved forward with installing everything. We built the retaining wall with durable concrete blocks, adding a darker-colored ledge around the top to border the pool deck. Then, we used light gray concrete pavers for the deck, which we arranged in a mismatched pattern to create visual interest. We also added smaller pavers around the edges that matched the dark-colored retaining wall ledge to define its shape. This design gives the pool deck a modern, attractive appearance while ensuring it'll stand the test of time.

We Fixed the Damaged Grass Around the Pool Deck With New Seeds

With all the main elements of this project completed, the last step was to fix the damaged grass around the pool deck. To do this, we spread grass seeds and covered them with straw. The straw was necessary to help keep the seeds in place so they weren't swept away from the elements or eaten by critters. Now, our client boasts a beautiful paver pool deck perfect for spending time by the pool and enjoying the outdoors!
