We had a client in Downingtown, PA, reach out to our crew with the goal of transforming their backyard into an outdoor living oasis. They have a spacious yard, so they wanted to ensure all of it was utilized. A freeform pool was on their must-have list, so that became the main feature of this project. In addition to that, we installed a concrete paver pool deck around it so they have a space to lounge. We also incorporated landscape beds around the pool with charming shrubs and boulders to create a cohesive blend of natural elements. After that, we put the finishing touches on this backyard pool and landscaping project with rock and mulch ground covers, as well as outdoor lighting in the beds to illuminate them at night.

The Freeform Pool & Concrete Paver Pool Deck Were the First Steps of This Project

The most prominent element of this backyard project was the pool, so that was the first step. The pool was designed with an attractive freeform shape and natural stone walls surrounding it for a rustic yet elegant look. Additionally, waterfall features and a sun shelf were incorporated into it so our client can get the most out of their pool.

Once the pool was done, we built a pool deck from concrete pavers! Pavers were the material of choice because they're highly durable, allowing our client to enjoy a long-lasting area where they can lounge and spend time outside. We primarily used light gray pavers, though smaller, dark gray square pavers were used to border the pool and the outer perimeter of the deck; this emphasizes the freeform pool shape and creates a clear separation between the deck and surrounding grass.

We Installed Landscaping Around the Pool

The next step of this backyard pool project was to install landscaping! We added landscape beds around the pool to blend natural elements into our client's outdoor living space, which we filled with small, charming shrubs and boulders. While the shrubs bring a lively display and pops of greenery, the boulders add visual interest, sticking to the natural aesthetic they wanted.

The Finishing Touches of This Backyard Project Included Landscape Ground Covers & Outdoor Lighting

After we completed the major elements of this backyard project, we moved on to the finishing touches! We installed a mulch ground cover in the outer landscape beds and rocks for those lining the walls around the pool area. These ground covers give the beds a refined look that complements the overall vision our client had for their outdoor space. Outdoor lighting was also added; we strategically placed small, unassuming fixtures throughout the inner rock landscape beds so our client can continue to enjoy their newly transformed area even after the sun goes down. Now, they have a beautifully designed outdoor living space that fits their backyard perfectly, boasting a modern aesthetic with a blend of natural elements for a cohesive look they can enjoy for years to come.
